Pastel Painting, "Tempest"

"Tempest" 12x16 inches, pastel on board
Available through Etsy

This is a bit more abstract than usual for me and I really enjoyed it.  I used all of my favorite colors, and tried to capture a feeling instead of a scene.  It was inspired by a piece of music that I heard at the Oregon Symphony with my father, "Become Ocean" by the very talented John Luther Adams.  I felt so lucky to hear it live - the Oregon Symphony always does an amazing job, but this was quite an experience.

Pastel Painting, "Shady Cove"

Shady Cove, 8x10 inches, pastel on board
Available on Etsy

My family and I went on a wonderful camping trip this summer to a campground called Shady Cove, on the Little North Fork river, in Oregon.  We were lucky enough to get our favorite campsite, and also to have absolutely perfect weather!  This campground is part of the Opal Creek Wilderness, which is (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  I painted this with the board propped on my lap, sitting right in front of the river, and added a few touches back in the studio.
